Pauline "Lily" Edna Johnson Coates 1916 - 2007 Baldwin City
Services for Pauline "Lily" Edna Johnson Coates, 90, Baldwin City, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin City. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City.Mrs. Coates died Friday, April 20, 2007, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, following a stroke.She was born Nov. 21, 1916, near Towner, Colo., the daughter of Charles Albert Johnson and Mary Louisa Deppe. She attended Mount Oread School. She lived most of her life in Lawrence.Mrs. Coates was a receiving manager, operations manager and interim department manager of women's apparel at Weaver's department store in Lawrence from 1950 to 1988. She was a member of Lawrence's Fraternal Order of Eagles Mount Oread Aerie No. 309.She married Harold Leon Coates on Sept. 8, 1934, in Baldwin City. He died June 18, 1975.Survivors include three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.Three children, Margie Pauline Coates Smith, Jimmy Leon Coates and William Albert Coates, preceded her in death.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Baldwin City Library, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City 66006.
