Terrill L. “Terry” Goodman Ward

Funeral services for Terrill L. “Terry” Goodman Ward, 75, Galena, will be at 10 a.m. today at Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Galena.Mr. Ward died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at St. John’s Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.He was born Dec. 7, 1931, near Lynxville, Wis., the son of Clemont and Opal Ward Goodman. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Buford and Bertha Ward, and adopted by his grandmother after his grandfather’s death. He graduated from Baxter Springs High School in 1949.Mr. Ward served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1950 to 1953 and was a medic during the Korean War. He worked at the U.S. Census Bureau in Pittsburg, and retired in 1985 after 25 years of service. He owned and operated Ward’s Electric until 2000.He was a member of Galena United Methodist Church. He was involved in civic and community groups. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America and served as district commissioner for its Midland District, Mo-Kan Area Council. He was a member of the Galena board of education from 1973 to 1985, the Galena City Council, Lions Club, Galena Lodge No. 677 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he was a 46-year member of Galena Lodge No. 194 A.F. & A.M. He was also a Shriner.He married Lois Anderson in 1954 in Miami, Okla. She survives.Other survivors include a son, Kelvin Ward, Galena; six daughters, Dianna Green, Lynda Thompson and Gaylene Keyser, all of Galena, Brenda Mallatt, Pittsburg, Lois Kay Hart Spillman, Andover, and Starla Meigs, Cookeville, Tenn.; three brothers, Howard Goodman, Grain Valley, Mo., Mack Goodman, Thornton, Colo., and Monte Goodman, Shell Knob, Mo.; two sisters, Angie Cloninger, Everett, Wash., and Beth Bunney, Snohomish, Wash.; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a granddaughter, Megan Mallatt.The family suggests memorials to the Megan Mallatt Memorial Scholarship Fund, Galena United Methodist Church or Galena Educational Foundation, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
