Arthur Edward “Ed” James

Services for Arthur Edward “Ed” James, 82, Topeka, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial with military honors will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. James died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.He was born May 25, 1924, in Lawrence, the son of Joseph Franklin and Della Catherine Ray James. He attended rural school north of Midland.Mr. James served in the U.S. Army with the 30th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Division as a sergeant T/4 in the European Theater during World War II. He later owned and operated The Bate Shop in Perry and Ed’s Body Shop in Lawrence. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and cooking.He married Ellagnes Cook. They divorced.Survivors include four grandchildren, Dale James, Christinia Serratte, Scott Bonham and Stephanie Johnson; two sisters, Helen Echols and Ruth Meyer; a brother, Ray and wife Bonnie, Topeka; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale E.; a daughter, Katherine Louise Bonham; his parents; and several brothers and a sister.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Thursday.
