Don Jansen

Funeral services for Don Jansen, 91, Baldwin City, will be at 1 p.m. today at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will follow at Evergreen Mound Cemetery northwest of Ottawa.Mr. Jansen died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Seasons Care Center in Kansas City, Mo.He was born June 22, 1915, in Thomas, Okla., the son of Archie and Jeannie Hower Jansen. He moved to Franklin County, where he attended Union Grade School and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1933. He worked as a manager at the grain elevator in Amarillo, Texas. He also was a farmer and rancher at his farm east of Pomona and worked as a custom combine cutter. He worked for Cecil Capp Ranch in Princeton. He owned and operated Don’s One Stop Service Station in Ottawa until 1958 and was manager of Sam Mulkey Farms in Lee’s Summit, Mo. He moved to Baldwin City and worked as custodian for Baldwin Elementary School for 11 years. He married Margaret Shambaugh. She died March 20, 1944. He married Ruby Evelyn Altic on April 14, 1945, in Fort Scott. They shared more than 59 years of marriage. She died Dec. 25, 2004.He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rex; two brothers, Roy and Richard; and two sisters, Ruth Fisher and Bessie Bird.Survivors include four sons, Herb Jansen and wife Phyllis, Olathe, Donnie Jansen, Buffalo, Okla., Ron Jansen, Lee’s Summit, and Jerry Jansen and wife Sherrie, Independence, Mo.; a daughter, Judy Clevenger and husband Kenny, Lee’s Summit; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
