William Menzies Barker

Funeral services for William Menzies Barker, 62, of Valley Falls, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery.Mr. Barker died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.He was born Aug. 4, 1944, in Detroit, the son of LeRoy Giles and Lillian Menzies Barker. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1962 and later attended Washburn University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.Mr. Barker was a pressman at the State of Kansas Printing Plant in Topeka for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge No. 21 in Valley Falls.He married Sharon Ellen Layton on Feb. 7, 1969, in Topeka. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include their three sons, Robert, Delaware, William, Houston, and Rodger, Valley Falls; two daughters, Laura Lea Barker, Valley Falls, and Heather Ellen Barker, Topeka; his mother, Lillian Barker, Linwood; two brothers, Robert, of Linwood, and Bradley, Lawrence; a sister, Betty Thoennes, Eudora, and one granddaughter.
