Loyal Joseph Atwood

Services for Loyal Joseph Atwood, 83, Auburn, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene in Topeka. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.Mr. Atwood died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Lexington Park Nursing Center.He was born July 22, 1923, west of Auburn, the son of Loyal and Edna Maria Holmes Atwood. He attended Twinville Grade School and graduated from Auburn High School.Mr. Atwood was a farmer. He was president of the Shawnee County Farm Bureau and a member of the Dover school board, Pauline Elevator Cooperative Board, FHA Board, Auburn Township Board, Keene Wesleyan Church, Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene and the Wakarusa Watershed.He married Elsie Roberta Gifford on July 22, 1945, west of Auburn. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Lawrence Atwood and wife Sherry, Auburn, and John Atwood and wife Leatrice, Auburn; two daughters, Elsie Dossett and husband Johnnie, McPherson, and Betty Childers, Lawrence; a brother, Ralph Atwood; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.A daughter, Margaret Childers, died in 1988, and two brothers and three sisters also died earlier. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church.
