Wesley Ellard Taylor 1922 - 2006 Overland Park
Services for Wesley Ellard Taylor, 84, Warrensburg, Mo., will be at 1 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer & Sons Funeral Chapel in Overland Park. Mr. Taylor died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg after a long illness.He was born April 4, 1922, in Columbia, Mo., the son of George E. and Bessie May Christenson Taylor. He grew up in Lawrence and attended Liberty Memorial High School until 1940.Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Merchant Marines as a chief engineer during World War II and the Korean War. He later served as a commander in Military Transport Command with the Seventh Fleet in the Pacific during the Vietnam War and Cold War. He married Doretta Edwards on Feb. 1, 1941, in Lawrence. They divorced. He married Nobuko Uchio in Yokohama, Japan, in April 1974. She died in 1999.Survivors include a son, W. Ellard Jr., Isle Au Haut, Maine; two daughters, Deborah L. Doering, Overland Park, and Thurndotte B. Dollahite, Tyler, Texas; three brothers, Edgar A., Groves, Texas, George E., Lawrence, and Herbert E., Bennington, Vt.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the Warrensburg Veterans Home, 1300 Veterans Road, Warrensburg, MO 64093.
