Robert Jesse Bacon

Memorial services for Robert Jesse Bacon, 89, Lawrence, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in Topeka. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.Mr. Bacon died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Nov. 29, 1916, in White City, the son of Reuben Homer and Effie M. Knapp Bacon. He graduated from White City High School and later from radio and television school.Mr. Bacon served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. He was licensed to operate a radio station, and owned an appliance service company and worked as an electrician for several years.He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, Doorstep, Let’s Help and other organizations.He married Mary Louise Ramsour on Nov. 16, 1941. She died in April 1971. He married Alice E. Smith Tanner on March 31, 1972. She survives.Other survivors include a son, Allan Lee, Haysville; two daughters, Ann Marie Cook, Corinth, Texas, and Jane Kay Unruh, Lawrence; three stepsons, Dennis Tanner, Seattle, Dwight Tanner, Portland, Ore., and Allan Tanner, Wichita; a stepdaughter, Jean Cox, Rockville, Md.; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Grace United Methodist Church, sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N.
