Services for Lenard Paul Jason, 79, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. The family will scatter the ashes at sea at a later date.Mr. Jason died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born June 9, 1927, in Ville Platte, La., the son of Chester and Layer Frank Jason.Mr. Jason served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated a taxicab company in San Diego. He was a member of the Community Church of God in Lawrence.Survivors include his adopted family, Odessa Shorter and Jesse and Linda Hunter, all of Lawrence, Joshua and Sandra Akpovana, Topeka, Melvin and Margaret Shorter, Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Chester Jason, Oakland, Calif.; a sister, Louhilda Hill, Hayward, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday before services at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to Kansas Dialysis Services or Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Jason.
