Wyatt Irven Hendry

Services for Wyatt Irven Hendry, 81, Baldwin, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin. Burial will follow at Fouts Cemetery in Ottawa.Mr. Hendry died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at his home.He was born Aug. 10, 1925, in New Albany, the son of Ray Howard and Zelma S. Hanson Hendry. He grew up and attended schools in Fredonia.He worked as a teen at the brickyard and Linseed Oil Mill in Fredonia. He worked in Wichita for Cessna and Beech Aircraft during World War II and then hauled milk for the Molene, Baldwin and Ottawa Bennetts Creamery. He later worked for Cruppers Transport Co. and Southwest Forest Trucking Co., retiring in 1979. He also operated Hendry & Sons Pest Control in Baldwin. During retirement, he worked at Baker University as a security guard for several years.He was a member of Baldwin Baptist Church, which he helped build. He also had been a member of the Masonic Temple since 1969.He married Mildred E. Finch on May 15, 1945, in Augusta. She died Feb. 26, 1994. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evalou Adams.Survivors include his companion, Wilma Ford, of the home; three sons, Marvin W. and wife Diana, Topeka, Randal I. and wife Brenda, Wellsville, and Ronald E. and wife Cindy, Linwood; a daughter, Janelle D. McMechan and husband Leland, Lawrence; three brothers, Virgil, Norman and Olin Hendry; two sisters, Ioma Meyers and Nona Deal; seven grandchildren, Johnny, Cail, Cathy, Bryan, Brandon, Joshua and Aaron; and 11 great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
