Rev. Sharon Brown Chappell

Services for the Rev. Sharon Brown Chappell, 65, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 4 at First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville. Inurnment will follow.She died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka after a long illness. She was born Dec. 18, 1940, in Columbus, Kan., the daughter of Milton and Doris Brown. She grew up in Coffeyville.She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Kansas University and a master’s degree from Pittsburg State University. She taught in the Coffeyville area for many years.She later attended St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo., and became a First United Methodist Church minister, serving several churches in Kansas. Her last appointment was at First United Methodist Church of Oskaloosa.She married James Lee Chappell in 1960. They later divorced.A son, David Chappell, died earlier.Survivors include two sons, Jim Chappell, Broomfield, Colo., and Dan Chappell, Lawrence; a sister, Elizabeth Fink, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Fred Brown, Coffeyville; and nine grandchildren.The family will receive friends after services at the church.The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church of Oskaloosa, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka 66604.
