Marvin L. "Hans" Beem 1935 - 2006 Eudora
Services for Marvin L. "Hans" Beem, 70, Eudora, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Eudora City Cemetery.Mr. Beem died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at his home.He was born Nov. 23, 1935, in Washington County, the son of Edward A. and Dorothy A. Grancer Beem. He attended school in Barnes.Mr. Beem served in the U.S. Navy. He was a union heavy equipment operator in the road construction business. He worked for Palmyra Township and retired from the Douglas County Road and Bridge Department in 1992. He drove a school bus for the Eudora school district after he retired until May 2006. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora, the National Rifle Assn. and a former member of Eudora Lions Club.He married Mary E. Long on June 18, 1960, in Miami, Okla. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Machaela Watson and husband Steve, Eudora; a brother, Donald, Edwards, Mo.; two sisters, Norma Klossen, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Betty Rosebaugh, Barnes; a daughter-in-law, Mary Rose Beem, Eudora; mother-in-law, Fern Long, Eudora; three brothers-in-law John Long and wife Becky, San Antonio, Bill Long and wife Jan, Stewart, Fla., and Duane Hayes, Eudora; three grandchildren, Amanda Beem and Emily and Abigail Watson; and a step-grandchild, Jenna Watson.A son, Matthew L. Beem, died in 2004.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.The family suggests memorials to First Southern Baptist Church Building Fund, Heart of America Hospice or the Center for Basic Cancer Research, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
