Alice Johnson 1905 - 2006 Lawrence
Services for Alice Johnson, 100, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Vinland Cemetery.Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, in Shingle Springs, Calif., at her daughter's home.She was born Nov. 19, 1905, in Vinland, the daughter of Lew and Omi Melton Hansen. She graduated from Vinland High School.Mrs. Johnson owned and operated Johnson's Dress Shop in downtown Lawrence and later Johnson's Real Estate. In 1949, She was the first women elected president of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce. She was a member and former president of Business and Professional Women and the American Legion auxiliary. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.She married Fred William Johnson. He died Aug. 31, 1965.Survivors include a daughter, Eileen Desmond, Shingle Springs, Calif.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.A son, Lewis Eldon Johnson, died in 1971, and a grandson died in 2005.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
