George Abel

Mass of Christian Burial for George Abel, 78, Eudora, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora. Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Eudora.Mr. Abel died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at his home.He was born Aug. 25, 1928, on the family farm in Eudora, the son of Otto and Sarah W. Neis Abel. He graduated from Eudora High School in 1945. Mr. Abel was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of Kansas Farm Bureau, Weaver’s Bottom Drainage District and a past board member of Johnson County Rural Water District No. 6. He received the Johnson County Conservation Award in 1995. He was a proud supporter of wrestling and other Eudora High School sports.He married Mary Komer on Jan. 7, 1951, in Eudora. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include five sons, George R., Emporia, Gary M., Mulvane, and Danny C., Ronald M. and Chris N., all of Eudora; four daughters, Kathy Abel Laws, Ottawa, JoAnn D. Mott, Belvue, Mary Jane Harris, Eudora, Becky L. Huslig, Andover; a brother, Carl M., Eudora; three sisters, Minnie Fesmire, Olathe, Elva Kindred, Eudora, and Marion Shutt, Lawrence; 34 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Three sons, Michael J., Paul O. and Don M., died earlier, and two sisters, Annetta Wright and Violet Kimberling, died earlier.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Eudora Chapel, where a short prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today. The family suggests memorials to Holy Family Catholic Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the mortuary, 1003 John L.
