Charles William Hoffman 1911 - 2006 Lawrence

Services for Charles William Hoffman, 95, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at Worden Cemetery.Mr. Hoffman died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born March 14, 1911, in Overbrook, the son of John Andrew and Flossie Ellen Bragg Hoffman.Mr. Hoffman farmed near Baldwin and Appanoose. He moved to Yakima, Wash., in 1940. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served until 1944.He then moved to Lawrence and owned and operated the 23rd Street Garage for several years. He also worked as a salesman and sales manager at Bill Bodine Lincoln Mercury and Winter Chevrolet before retiring in 1973.He was a member of an antique car club and Worden United Methodist Church.He married Mae Pippert on March 8, 1933, in Worden. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Betty Wright and Charlotte Sparkes, both of Lawrence; five grandchildren, James Sparkes Jr., David Sparkes, Bradley Wright, Lisa Hughes and Sheri Geer; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.The family suggests memorials to the Worden Cemetery Assn. for upkeep or the Palliative Care Unit at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
