Edward F. Johnson Jr., 1923 - 2006 Topeka
Services for Edward F. Johnson Jr., 83, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in Topeka. Burial with military honors will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka. Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at his home. He was born June 30, 1923, in Topeka, the son of Edward F. and Elsie May Myers Johnson.Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a captain from the Topeka Police Department after 32 years of service.He was a member of the Kansas Police Officers Assn., Fraternal Order of Police, Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, A.F. & A.M., Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies, Arab Shrine Temple, Topeka North Post No. 400 of the American Legion and Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.He married Bernice Schultz on Aug. 11, 1944, in Fort Pierce, Fla. She died Sept. 12, 1998.Survivors include two sons, Tom, Berryton, and Steve, Lawrence; two daughters, Linda Lincoln, Tecumseh, and Denise Appelhanz, Topeka; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, where the family will receive them from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.The family suggests memorials to Shriners Hospitals for Children Travel Fund, sent in care of Arab Temple, 1305 S.
