Steven Thomas Auten 1962 - 2006 Fontana
Services for Steven Thomas Auten, 44, rural Fontana, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola.Mr. Auten died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, near Small Lake, Manitoba, Canada. He was born July 31, 1962, in Paola, the son of Tom and Susan Harris Auten. He graduated from Paola High School in 1980. He attended St. Benedictine College in Atchison for two years and transferred to Kansas University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy in 1985.Mr. Auten worked as a pharmacist at Walgreen's in Topeka. He worked for Steve Miller and Allen Asher in Paola and later for Bill Sinclair at Osawatomie Drug Store, which he later purchased. He and his partner owned and operated pharmacies in Osawatomie, Garnett, Paola, Mound City, Baldwin and Osage City.Steve was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Philip Neri Parish Council and St. Philip Neri Finance Council. He was a member of the Board of Directors of First Option Bank, Citizen's Advisory Council for the YMCA, Lakemary Board of Directors, Kansas Pharmacy Assn., Miami County Planning and Zoning Board, Miami County Economic Development Board, Miami County Charitable Board of Trustees, Miami County Community Foundation Board, DATA Rx Board and KU School of Pharmacy Endowment. He established an Osawatomie High School scholarship for students majoring in pharmacy.He married Teri Kay Brown on Sept. 3, 1983, in Osawatomie. She survives, of the home.Survivors include two daughters, Ashley and Alyssa, both of Lawrence; two sons, Jakeb and Jared, of the home; his father, Minnesota; his mother, Paola; two brothers, Joe and James, Paola; three sisters, Dorothy Barnthouse, Leawood, Martha Carter, Overland Park, and Nancy Kirk, Paola.The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Philip Neri Church in Osawatomie with a rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday.The memorials may be made to the Steve Auten Memorial, Miami County Family YMCA in care of USD 367, 1200 Trojan Drive, Osawatomie 66064.
