Kathleen R. Schwartzkopf

A celebration of life for Kathleen R. Schwartzkopf Sylwester, 63, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Larned Cemetery in Larned.Mrs. Sylwester died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at her home.She was born Dec. 30, 1942, in Great Bend, the daughter of William and Helen Spomer Schwartzkopf.She attended schools in Larned and graduated from Kansas University in 1965 with a degree in music therapy. She received a Master of Science degree in psychology from Central Missouri State University. Mrs. Sylwester served as director of music therapy at Topeka State Hospital and worked in private practice for 15 years. She specialized in counseling with women and families. After moving to Lawrence in 2000, she worked as a part-time counselor with Catholic Community Services.She was active in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Warrensburg, Mo., and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and an interdenominational study group, all in Lawrence. She married Harold J. “Jim” Sylwester on July 25, 1965, in Larned. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include her father, Hutchinson; two sons, Kevin Sylwester, Herrin, Ill., and Bradley Sylwester, St. Louis; a brother, Lynn Schwartzkopf, Hutchinson; and two sisters, Miriam Davies, Bolivar, Pa., and Janet Young, Bartlesville, Okla. An infant grandson died earlier.Friends may call after noon Thursday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Catholic Community Services, Hospice Care of Kansas in Lenexa, the Adult Survival Center of Warrensburg, Mo., or one of the Lutheran churches listed above, sent in care of the funeral chapel, P.O.
