Services for Ruth M. Davis, 88, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.Mrs. Davis died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at her home.She was born Oct. 16, 1918, in LeLoup, the daughter of Edwin Henry and Joyce Mabel Keagy Fisher. She received a G.E.D. from Lawrence High School in 1974.Mrs. Davis was a head cook for the Lawrence school district for 17 years, serving at Schwegler School and Liberty Memorial High School. She was a member of Country Community Church, Belleview Extension Homemakers Unit and Kaw Valley Extension Homemakers Unit. Her hobbies were talking books, flower gardens and quilting.She married Joseph Eugene Davis on April 6, 1941, in LeLoup. He died Aug. 21, 1979.Survivors include a son, Joseph Davis, Topeka; a daughter, Joyce Virtue, Scammon; a brother, Merlin Fisher, Wellsville; a sister, Marie Mistele, Raymore, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Ruth Wydick, Jennifer Backes, Margaret and Mary Schroll, and Bryce, Brynn and Branton Davis; and four great-grandchildren, Janci Wydick, Trey and Joshua Backes, and Holly Davis.A daughter, Gwen Schroll, and a brother, Orval Fisher, died earlier.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until services Wednesday.The family suggests memorials to Country Community Church, Kansas Audio-Reader Network or Meals on Wheels, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
