Josie Mae Howard

Services for Josie Mae Howard, 80, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Miss Howard died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.She was born July 2, 1926, in Lawrence, the daughter of William Alfred and Gertrude E. Lewis Howard. She was a lifelong Lawrence resident.Miss Howard was a cook for Phi Delta Theta fraternity for many years and a housekeeper for Dr. Kimbrough for 10 years. She also worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in De Soto.She was a member of Heroines of Jericho Lodge in Lawrence and St. Luke’s A.M.E. Church. She was active with the church choir and sang with the Emperials.Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Montgomery, Woodbury, Minn.; and three grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.
