William F. Cox

Funeral services for William F. Cox, 84, of Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Community Church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John.Mr. Cox died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Minneapolis, Kan., the son of Walter Edwin and Ola Celeste (Souder) Cox.Mr. Cox attended Minneapolis schools and graduated in 1939. He attended Salt City Business School in Hutchinson before going to San Diego and working at the Bank of America. He served in the Army Air Force for 3 years during World War II. He later received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration at Upper Iowa University. After the war, Mr. Cox was an insurance agent for Prudential for 12 years in Salina, Manhattan and Clay Center. In 1963, he moved to Lawrence and was an accountant in the comptroller’s office and research accounting department until ill health caused retirement in 1981.He was a member of Christ Community Church. He was a deacon, elder and a Sunday School teacher.He was married to Catherine (Katie) Robinson on Oct. 10, 1942, in Minneapolis, Kan. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include three sons, Dr. Kent W. Cox, Lakeside, Ariz., Karl O. Cox Tempe, Ariz., and Robert W. Cox, Spokane, Wash.; a half sister, Carol Sue Heim, Seattle; three grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter and four great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends following the service at the church.The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or to Christ Community Church and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Online condolences may be sent to www.warrenmcelwain.com Subject: Cox.
