Otto W. “Bill” Meyer

Services for Otto W. “Bill” Meyer, 81, Marion, will be at 2 p.m. today at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion. Burial with military honors will be in Marion Cemetery.Mr. Meyer died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Pratt, the son of Otto and Ruth Jones Meyer.Mr. Meyer served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was an editor and publisher of the Marion County Record. He was a trustee of the William Allen White Foundation in Emporia, on the board of directors of Central National Bank and the Kansas State Historical Society, a past president of the Kansas Press Assn., co-chairman of the Kansas Newspaper Foundation and editor of the 99th Infantry Division Assn.’s Checkerboard.He married Joan Wight on Sept. 11, 1949, in Marion. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Eric, Champaign, Ill.; a sister, Elaine Weaver, Austin, Texas, a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.The family suggests memorials to the Meyer Family Trust Fund with the Kansas Newspaper Foundation or St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion, sent in care of the funeral home, 205 Elm St., Marion 66861.
