James Earl "Skeet" Lewis 1953 - 2006 Wichita
Services for James Earl "Skeet" Lewis, 52, Wichita, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church in Wichita. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Leavenworth National Cemetery.Mr. Lewis died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, in Knoxville, Tenn., from a stroke.He was born Nov. 24, 1953, in Salina, the son of Joseph A. and Laura Mae Johnson Lewis. He graduated from Ramey High School in Puerto Rico in 1971, where he was co-captain of the football team for two years and was undefeated in wresting for four years in the heavyweight unlimited division. He was also the Caribbean Heavyweight Champion in wrestling in 1971. He graduated from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., in 1975.Mr. Lewis served in the U.S. Army from 1976 to 1980 as an infantry officer and served tours of duty in Fort Knox, Ky., and Seoul, S. Korea, as a motor pool supervisor. He attained the rank of first lieutenant before he was honorably discharged. He worked in various positions in construction and in supervisory positions for the U.S. Postal Service. He owned and operated a tractor-trailer transportation business with Landstar Ranger. He was also a truck driver for Total Transportation of Mississippi.He married Jacqueline Nunez in 1999 in Wichita. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include his father and stepmother, Joseph A. and Addie Lewis; two sons, Jason, Fayetteville, N.C., and Mario Lewis, St. Louis; two sisters, Joni Williams, Fayetteville, N.C., and Rhonda Birdsong, Lawrence; and a grandson.Memorials may be sent in care of Jackson Mortuary, 1125 E. 13th St., Wichita 67214, to be designated at a later date.
