Opal Wells Hesselbarth

Services for Opal Wells Hesselbarth, 83, Grand Junction, were Tuesday at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. Graveside services are pending at Oakhill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kan.Mrs. Hesselbarth died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Mesa Manor Rehabilitation Center in Grand Junction.She was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Lawrence, the daughter of Elizabeth and William Wells. She attended Oread High School and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Kansas University in May 1946. She lived in Kansas City, Mo.; Wichita, Kan.; Aurora, Ill.; Durango, Colo.; Denver; Fort Morgan, Colo.; and Grand Junction.Mrs. Hesselbarth was a homemaker. She worked for a public utility in Lawrence and the Family Service Assn. of Kansas City, Mo. She was active in the United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school and participated in women’s circles, including the Isabella Benson Circle of Crossroads United Methodist Church.She married Maynard Hesselbarth on May 30, 1948. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Woody, Fort Collins, Colo., and Dennis, Wichita; her identical twin, Alice Lassman, Lawrence, and three other sisters, Wilma Johnson, Des Moines, Wash., Eleanor Curtis, Oklahoma City, and Annette Wells-Gaston, Roeland Park, Kan.; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.The family suggests memorials to Crossroads United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Snell-McLean Funeral Home, 729 37 3/10 Road Elberta, Palisade, CO 81526.
