Jimmie D. Morton 1935 - 2006 Ottawa
Ottawa - Services for Jimmie D. Morton, 71, Ottawa, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.Mr. Morton died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born June 30, 1935, in Ottawa, the son of Russell and Minnie Brumbaugh Morton. He grew up and attended schools in Ottawa.Mr. Morton served in the U.S. Air Force, primarily at Forbes Field in Topeka, from 1954 until he was honorably discharged in 1958. He worked for Central State Steel Co. in Kansas City, Mo., for 15 years and at Solaray Sunglasses Co. as a regional manager for 20 years until his health began to fail last month.He enjoyed drinking coffee, having a good conversation with his buddies every morning, reading mystery novels and spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren.He was married to Barbara J. Boyer for more than 42 years. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Steve D. and wife Jane, Ottawa; a daughter, Lisa M. Morton and fiance Jason Mallicoat, Ottawa; a sister, Dorothy Davis and husband Joe, Bethany, Okla.; six grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan, Allie, Olivia, Logan and Keaton; and four stepgrandchildren, Ashton, Brittney, Colby and Hayden.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest and Russell, and two sisters, Mary Collins and Thelma Broers.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa 66067.
