Caroline Jane Brown Locke 1912 - 2006 Odessa, Texas
Services for Caroline Jane Brown Locke, 93, Odessa, Texas, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Union Hill Cemetery in Mineral Wells, Texas.Mrs. Locke died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, in Odessa.She was born Dec. 3, 1912, near Weatherford, Texas, the daughter of Sellers B. Sr. and Ellen Brown. She graduated from Mineral Wells High School and attended Weatherford Junior College. She received a Bachelor of Arts in education from Daniel Baker College in Brownwood, Texas, a Master of Education from Texas Christian University and a doctorate in education from North Texas University.Mrs. Locke taught at Brazos Valley School and was a teacher and principal at Progress School, both in Palo Pinto County. She also taught in Fort Worth schools, where she was a teacher, principal, consultant, director of curriculum and director of staff development. She retired from the Fort Worth Independent School District in 1982 and was recalled many times to serve as an interim principal until 1993.She was active in many service and professional organizations and was president of a local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Fort Worth Association of Childhood Education, Fort Worth Principals and Vice Principals Assn. and Fort Worth Council of Administrative Women. She was a member and elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa.She married Carl Edwin Locke Sr. in 1933. He died in 1987.Survivors include two sons, Carl Edwin Locke Jr., Lawrence, Kan., and Joel Brady Locke, Odessa, Texas; a brother, Sellers B. Brown Jr., Granbury, Texas; four grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa, 4901 Maple, Odessa, TX 79762 or Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth, 7001 Trail Lake, Fort Worth, TX 76133.Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa is in charge of arrangements.
