Judith M. Arentson 1932 - 2006 Lawrence
A memorial gathering for Judith M. Arentson, 74, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be at a later date.Ms. Arentson died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.She was born April 1, 1932, in Pontiac, Mich., the daughter of Gerhard and Hilma Korhornen Lampinen. She moved from Detroit to Lawrence in 1957.Ms. Arentson was a homemaker and worked as an advocate for the mentally ill through the Kansas Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She formed the Douglas County Families for Mental Health Chapter of Kansas NAMI. She solicited grant money to establish Job Start, which placed mentally ill people in the workplace.Survivors include a son, Carl N., of Eskridge; three daughters, Ingrid Pearson and husband Thomas, Oak Park, Ill., Christine Arentson, Lawrence, and Karen Arentson and partner Keith Cromack, Gurnee, Ill.; two brothers, Gary Lampinen, Roscommon, Mich., Floyd Lampinen, Las Vegas; two sisters, Lily Lampinen, Sarasota, Fla., and Margaret Robinson, West Branch, Mich.The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.The family suggests memorials to the Kansas Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.warrenmcelwain.com">www.warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Arentson.
