Britton C. Thompson

Services for Britton C. Thompson, 79, Chanute, will be at 2 p.m. today at First Christian Church in Chanute. Burial with military honors will follow in Swede Center Cemetery in rural Chanute.Mr. Thompson died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at his daughter’s home in Thayer.He was born March 8, 1927, in Bartlett, Ill., the son of Lester and Ameila Nesler Thompson. He was raised in Chanute and was a longtime resident of Eudora.Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War and was stationed in California. He operated his family’s dairy in Chanute until 1994. He served as a secretary on the Coop Board, was a committee member for FSA, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Farm Bureau and Neosho County College Endowment Foundation. He was also a member of First Christian Church for 70 years and served as deacon until his health failed. He married Dessie Petty on Nov. 1, 1950, in Sacramento, Calif. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Ted and Dan, Lawrence; two daughters, Teri Eastman and Sherrie Brant; two sisters, Alice Ruggles, Ozark, Mo., and Edith McGurk, Topeka; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the church or St. Jude’s Hospital, sent in care of the funeral home, 16 N.
