Mattie Patch Fornelli

Services for Mattie Patch Fornelli, 90, Lawrence, will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McKee Cemetery in Cherokee County.Mrs. Fornelli died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at her home.She was born Dec. 14, 1915, in Cherokee County, the daughter of Harmon S. and Nettie Lewis Patch.Mrs. Fornelli was a homemaker. She also worked as a legal secretary in the Kansas City area and a teacher’s aide at Lawrence High School.She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she helped with rummage sales and Presbyterian Women Circles. She was a member of Business and Professional Women of Lawrence and was voted Woman of the Year in 1983. She was active in the India EHU and received its J.C. Jones Woman of the Year award. She also was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, a recognized driver for the American Cancer Society, a community leader for the Cottonwood 4-H Club for 30 years and a volunteer with other youth activities, including Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.She married Anthony D. “Tony” Fornelli on June 12, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Feb. 10, 1988.Survivors include four sons, Richard and wife Linda, Carlsbad, Calif., Stephen, Donald and wife Joni, and Gary and wife Debby, all of Lawrence; a sister, Maude Griffith, Hallowell; and eight grandchildren.Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County 4-H Foundation or First Presbyterian Church, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Fornelli.
