W. David Francisco

Services for Dr. W. David Francisco, 85, Prairie Village, will be Thursday, June 1, at Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village.Dr. Francisco died Saturday, May 20, 2006.He was born April 17, 1921, the son of Dr. C.B. Francisco and Ethel B. Francisco. He received an A.B. in 1941 and an M.D. in 1944 from Kansas University. Dr. Francisco served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps during World War II and was active until transferred as a commander to retired reserve in 1970. He was certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 1953. He practiced medicine in Kansas City, Kan., from 1951 to 1985, was an attendant orthopedic surgeon at Children’s Mercy Hospital and directed the cerebral palsy clinic at the University of Kansas Hospital. He worked at the Kansas City VA Hospital from 1985 to 2000. He was a charter member and elder of the Village Church and a member of the Society of Fellows of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. He served with Orthopedics Overseas in Nigeria, the Dominican Republic and South Africa.He married Jean Knablein in 1947. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, David D., and wife Kim, Leawood; two daughters, Barbara Francisco and husband Marc Mauer, Silver Springs, Md., and Marci Francisco and husband Joe Bickford, Lawrence; a sister, Jean Cook and husband Arthur, Signal Mountain, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Joanna, Daniel, Christopher and Heather; a niece Beth; and a nephew Franz.
