Elva May Mitchell 1912 - 2006 De Soto
Services for Elva May Mitchell, 93, De Soto, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto. Burial will be in De Soto Cemetery.Mrs. Mitchell died Monday, May 15, 2006, at her home. She was born Dec. 29, 1912, in Ridgeway, Mo., the daughter of James and Lola Gillespie. She graduated from Ridgeway High School and attended Marysville Teachers College for two years.Mrs. Mitchell taught school for many years. She later worked at Electronic Research, where she earned many honors.She was a longtime member of First Southern Baptist Church in Lenexa and later was a member at First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora.She married Manly Glenn Mitchell on Aug. 29, 1935. They later divorced.Survivors include four sons, Larry Mitchell, Gardner, Jim Mitchell, Moore, Okla., Jerry Mitchell, Osawatomie, and Bob Mitchell, Phoenix; three daughters, Norma Hoffine, Vancouver, Wash., and Carole Newport and Janie Gumm, both of De Soto; two brothers, Harold and Charlie Gillespie; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.A grandson died earlier.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.The family suggests memorials to Kansas City Hospice, 10100 W. 87 St., Suite 100, Overland Park 66212.
