James Thomas Black

Services for James Thomas Black, 80, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in McLouth. Burial will be in McLouth Cemetery.Mr. Black died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born March 1, 1926, in McLouth, the son of James David and Kate Lobb Black. He was raised in McLouth and graduated from Valley Center High School. He moved to Lawrence in 1947.Mr. Black served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during World War II. He co-owned and operated Lawrence Freight Line and BC&R Storage. He retired April 7, 1990.He was a member of Eagles Lodge and Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion, all in Lawrence.He married Marjorie L. Folks on Nov. 6, 1948, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Nancy S. Rowland, Overland Park; three sons, Stanley E. Black, Eudora, and James D. Black and Bradley D. Black, both of Lawrence; four brothers, Dale Black, Lawrence, Bob Black, Greenwood, Ark., Eldon Black, Dallas, Ore., and Jerry Black, Neosho, Mo.; three sisters, Wilma Yardley, Topeka, Doris Stanfield, El Dorado, and Shirley Duncan, Valley Center; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
