Dailen Elliott

Services for Dailen Elliott, 86, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.Mr. Elliott died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at his home.He was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Oskaloosa, the son of Earl and Irva Klinkensmith Elliott. He attended Buck Creek School in Oskaloosa.Mr. Elliott served in the U.S. Army and was in combat in Europe. He then worked for Midland Dehydration Co. for 40 years. In retirement, he worked for the Douglas County Jail and did farm work.He was a member of the American Legion.He married Mary Key in 1946. After she died, he married Evelyn McCleery in 1981 in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Richard, Lawrence; three stepsons, Michael McCleery, Eudora, Robert McCleery, Lawrence, and Dick McCleery, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Mary Payton, Cameron, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and until services Wednesday at the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
