Mary Ilene Ayling 1935 - 2006
Services for Mary Ilene Ayling, 70, Lawrence, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Iola Cemetery, Iola.Mrs. Ayling died Friday, March 24, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.She was born Sept. 1, 1935, in Toronto, Kan., the daughter of John and Etta Callahan Butts. She attended high school in Toronto.Mrs. Ayling moved to Lawrence in 1977 and worked at Presbyterian Manor as a nursing assistant. She also was a cashier at Wal-Mart and retired in 2004.She married Donald Ayling on Dec. 18, 1982, in Lawrence. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Charles Freeman III, Eudora; three daughters, Cathy Ball and Tresa L. Mirtz, both of Lawrence, and Mary Elizabeth Khalaf, Wichita; two brothers, Lowell Butts, California, and George Butts, Pickway; a sister, Neva M. Bertlesmann, Collinsville, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by a son, Keith William Freeman, and a daughter, Charlene Zimmerman.Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will meet with friends at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Cathy Ball, 3323 Iowa, lot 340.The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
