Betty J. Brooks 1924 - 2006
Services for Betty Jean Brooks, 81, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan. Burial will follow in Olsburg Cemetery.Mrs. Brooks died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence.She was born on Aug. 10, 1924, in Olsburg, the daughter of Clarence B. and Clara Mellgren Moore. She graduated from Olsburg High School in 1942. She moved from Olsburg to Manhattan in 1963.Mrs. Brooks worked for Doebeles IGA grocery store in Manhattan and as a clerk and meat wrapper for Dillons Food Store for 30 years until she retired. She was a member of Eagles Auxiliary.She married Clinton H. Brooks on April 7, 1943, in Clay Center. He died Jan. 12, 2001.Survivors include two sons, Duane M. Brooks, Lawrence, and Dwight C. Brooks, Topeka; three daughters, Marilyn A. Martin, Concordia, Maureen "Sue" McGathy, Bethel Island, Calif., and Marla J. Brandon, Wamego; a sister, Cecil Ingalsbe, Manhattan; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Olsburg Methodist Church, sent in care of the funeral home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan 66502.
