Helen E. Sutton Schwalm

Services for Helen E. Sutton Schwalm, 92, Baldwin, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church in Baldwin. Burial will follow at Sutton Cemetery.Mrs. Schwalm died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born June 12, 1913, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of Benjamin F. and Iva A. Clary Sutton. She attended Union Grade School west of Baldwin. She moved to Baldwin in 1982.As a teen, she worked for a number of farm families, including the family of Dr. James Naismith in Lawrence.Mrs. Schwalm was a homemaker and farm wife. She also worked as a cook at Kansas University.She was a former member of the Worden United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there. She later joined the Ives Chapel United Methodist Church in Baldwin, and had been a member there for more than 50 years.She also was a member of the Tat-N-Chat Club.She married Charles “Lester” Schwalm on March 24, 1937, in Newton. He died Jan. 30, 1993.Survivors include a daughter, Margie M. Adcock, Baldwin; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.The family will meet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin.The family suggests memorials to Ives Chapel United Methodist Church or Sutton Cemetery, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
