Walter J. Sneegas 1929 - 2006
Funeral services for Walter J. Sneegas, 76, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors.Mr. Sneegas died Friday, March 10, 2006, at The Windsor Assisted Living in Lawrence.He was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Lawrence, the son of Walter Byron and Mary Louise Marsh Sneegas. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1948 and continued his education at Kansas University. Mr. Sneegas served in the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean War and worked for Huxtable Inc. and later for Kohler Co., where he was a zone manager in Texas and Louisiana. He also owned Olsen Plumbing, worked at Sunflower Ammunition Plant, taught at the Plumbing & Pipefitter Training Center in Lawrence and was a consultant for the Lawrence City Commission. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion's Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 and the Alford Clark VFW Post No. 852.He married Ruth Kite on Feb. 7, 1952, in Las Cruces, N.M. She survives.Other survivors include a son, Michael, Lawrence; two daughters, Melissa Sutton and Audrey Sneegas, both of Lawrence; two brothers, Donald, Lawrence, and Lawrence David, Lenexa; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Assn., sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to <a href="mailto:info@warrenmcelwain.com">info@warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Sneegas.
