Services for Nadine Riegel Lankford, 84, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 17, at Shawnee United Methodist Church in Shawnee. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Mo.Mrs. Lankford died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.She was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Palmyra, Mo., the daughter of Roy William and Nellie Byrd Griffith Riegel. She graduated from Palmyra (Mo.) High School in 1939. She attended Johnson County Community College.Mrs. Lankford worked as a secretary in Hannibal, Mo., and a bookkeeper for Zarda Brothers Dairy in Shawnee. She also worked in retail sales for Adler’s, Stix and Dillard’s Department Stores in Overland Park. She taught Sunday school and was a Cub Scout den mother for many years in Shawnee. She served as an election worker, Republican committeewoman and as a member of the Shawnee City Planning Commission. She was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church.She married Marlowe Harrison Lankford on Sept. 27, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo. He died Jan. 22, 1984.Survivors include four sons, Alan Lankford, Overland Park, Perry Lankford, The Woodlands, Texas, Donald Lankford, Trinidad, Colo., and Bradley Lankford, Singapore; a daughter, Marcia Plankinton, Breckenridge, Colo.; four brothers, Garland Riegel, Charleston, Ill., Roy Riegel Jr., Clinton, Ill., Lyman Riegel, Virginia, Ill., and Robert Riegel, Orange Park, Fla.; three sisters, Nellie Richmond, Muncie, Ind., Jean Wammack, Red Oak, Texas, and Joan Barton, Jacksonville, Fla.; and a granddaughter.The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
