Dorothy Maxine Fletcher Snell 1923 - 2006 Ottawa
Ottawa - Services for Dorothy Maxine Fletcher Snell, 83, Ottawa, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. Mrs. Snell died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.She was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Horton, the daughter of James Ernest and Leva Lee Ball Fletcher. She attended schools in Iola. She moved to New Mexico in 1954 and to Ottawa in 1975.Mrs. Snell worked at the Consolidated Aircraft Instrument Lab in Fort Worth, Texas, during World War II. She worked at South Street Cafe in Iola, Sub Station Post Office in Wichita, the advertising department for the Alamogordo Daily News in New Mexico, and as a receptionist for Dr. James South for more than 20 years. She also worked for Bennett's Creamery, Western Wear Store, Freda's Dress Shop, Dairy Queen South, Ottawa Retirement Village and Wal-Mart. She was a member of Ottawa Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school and was active with S.A.M.S Senior Ministry. She married Noel P. Snell on Feb. 11, 1939, in Yates Center. He died June 2, 1993.Survivors include two sons, James Noel Snell, Las Cruces, N.M., and Richard McDonald Snell, Ottawa; two daughters, Vickie Lee Clark, Alamogordo, N.M., and Mary Lois Yates, Ottawa; two sisters, Vivian Barnett, Colony, and Freda Hughes, Ottawa; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials the church, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa 66067.
