David J. Hemme 1950 - 2006 Perry
A celebration of life for David J. Hemme, 56, Perry, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grantville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Newton.Mr. Hemme died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at his home. He was born March 23, 1950, in Topeka, the son of Raymond and Lizzie Janssen Hemme. He graduated from Perry Rural High School in 1968 and was certified in welding at Kaw Valley Vo-Tech. He received computer technology credentials from Midwest Automations in 1969. Mr. Hemme served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1973 and was stationed in Germany, Spain and England. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka. He later was a fifth-generation farmer and rancher at his family's farm north of Newman.He served on the Jefferson County Planning and Zoning Commission, Thompsonville Watershed Board, Jefferson County Farm Bureau Board, Perry Rural Water District board of directors and All Natural Beef Cooperative board of directors. He marketed the beef he raised under the Good Natured Family Farms label at Henhouse and sold Vigortone Agricultural Products. He attended Grantville United Methodist Church.Mr. Hemme was an advocate for responsible farming and livestock practices and protection of farmland. His son Alex will continue the family farming and ranching operation. He married Susan L. Alexander on Oct. 10, 1981. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Alex and Daniel, both of the home; a daughter, Sarah Hemme, of the home; two sisters, Grace Ann Dunn and husband John, Meriden, and Doris Hemme, Topeka; a brother, Paul, Perry; a brother-in-law, David Alexander, Kansas City, Mo.; four nieces, Malindi, Makelle, Chasitie and Jamie; a nephew, Chris; two great-nieces; a great-nephew and family friend Michael McClain-Payne, Great Lakes, Ill. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.The family suggests memorials to Jefferson County Hospice or the church, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
