Clovis Holey Kirby

Graveside services for Clovis Holey Kirby, 85, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Ms. Kirby died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.She was born May 15, 1921, in Jefferson County, the daughter of William E. and Lillie Lishner Holey. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1938 and attended Lawrence Business College.Ms. Kirby worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several years. She then worked for Montgomery Ward and New York Cleaners. She worked at First National Bank from 1954 until she retired as assistant vice president in 1983. She helped organize the bank’s Senior Partner Program. She also operated restaurants with her husband, Ralph, in Lawrence and Tonganoxie until 1974.She was a member of Business and Professional Women, Eagles Auxiliary No. 309, American Legion Auxiliary and American Association of Retired Persons. She also was a member and past president of Soroptimist International of Lawrence. She had been a member of Indian Hills Church of God since 1940.She married Jack Englehaupt in 1939. They divorced. She married Ralph F. Kirby in 1949. He died in 1974. A son, Gary “Corky” Englehaupt, also died earlier.Survivors include a son, Larry Englehaupt, Gardner; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.The family suggests memorials to Indian Hills Church of God, sent in care of the mortuary.
