Ruth Williams Orvedal 1915 - 2006 Lawrence
A private family service will be held for Ruth Williams Orvedal, 90, Lawrence. Mrs. Orvedal died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born July 7, 1915, in Fosterville, Tenn., the daughter of Benjamin M. and Elizabeth Stanford Williams. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State Teacher's College in Murphreesboro, Tenn., in 1937 and a Master of Science degree in home economics from the University of Tennessee in 1941. She moved from Lanham, Md., to Lawrence in 1995.Mrs. Orvedal taught at State Teacher's College in Radford, Va., the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and the University of Maryland in College Park. She retired in 1977.She married Arnold Clifford "Cliff" Orvedal, April 5, 1942, in Cambridge, Mass. He died Feb. 21, 1999. Survivors include two sons, Will Orvedal, Lecompton, and Ben Orvedal, Colchester, Conn.; a sister, Louise Graham, Big Sandy, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to <a href="mailto:info@warrenmcelwain.com">info@warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Orvedal.
