Funeral services for Franklin Hendrix Rice Jr., 89, Tonganoxie, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be in Hubble Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie.Mr. Rice died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Brady, Neb., the son of Franklin Hendrix Sr. and Eliza Jane Gryder Rice.Mr. Rice served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was an automobile salesman for John Haddock Ford in Lawrence for many years. He attended Christian Church in Tonganoxie. He was a member of Acacia Lodge 9, AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Abdallah Shrine, Lawrence Shrine Club and the Jayhawk Fire Brigade.He married Elvira Emry on May 20, 1945, in Coffeyville. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include twin sons, William J., Wichita, and James R., Tonganoxie; a sister, Mary Francis Rice, Troy, Mo.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to Shriners Hospital for Children in Kansas City, Mo., sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to
