Dolores Stephens

Services for Dolores Stephens, 76, Valley Falls, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be in Coal Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Stephens died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at LinnWood Home Plus in Valley Falls.She was born Sept. 27, 1929, near Valley Falls, the daughter of Oscar Clark and Esther Elizabeth Leu Reichart. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1948.Mrs. Stephens was a homemaker. She worked as a cook for 13 years at USD 338 in Valley Falls and for the state of Kansas for eight years in the Title and Registration Department. She was a member of the Coal Creek United Methodist Church and the You and I Club.She married Rollie M. “Rod” Stephens on Oct. 27, 1951, in Van Buren, Ark. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include three sons, Larry Dean Stephens, Valley Falls, Harold Lee Stephens, Denison, and Bradley Ray Stephens, Holton; two daughters, Carol Beth Wilkins, Denison, and Mary Lou Clark, Valley Falls; a sister, Judy Elaine Reichart, Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and family friend, Rick Enweiler, Denison.Her twin granddaughters died in infancy.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Jefferson County Hospice or ALS-KU Endowment Association for Research, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls 66088.Online condolences may be sent at www.mercerfuneralhomes.com.
