Services for Wilbur G. Leonard, 89, Topeka, are pending and will be announced by Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Topeka.Mr. Leonard died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Brewster Place in Topeka.He was born March 14, 1917, in White City, the son of Frank C. and Golda E. Good Leonard. He graduated from White City High School and Kansas University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1939 and a juris doctorate in 1941.Mr. Leonard served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed in Guam and flew B-29 missions and later delivered supplies to POW camps. He retired as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.He worked as a lawyer in private practice in Council Grove and as the Morris County attorney for seven years. In 1951, he moved to Topeka, where his private practice specialized in securities law, and he practiced cases before state and federal courts. He was appointed U.S. Attorney for Kansas during the Eisenhower administration and worked as a lawyer and counselor for other state agencies and associations.Mr. Leonard was a member of Central Congregational Church in Topeka, Kansas Chamber of Commerce, Kansas Bar Assn., Military Officers Association of America and KU Alumni Association and other organizations.He married O'Thene Huff on March 14, 1943, in Mulvane.
