Irvin C. Avey

Funeral services for Irven C. Avey, 88, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka. Mr. Avey died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Weldona, Colo., the son of Charles and Blanche Grover Avey. He attended school in Webster and Lawrence and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1937. He graduated from Watchmakers School in Los Angeles in 1947.Mr. Avey served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946 in the Radio Maintenance division. He worked at Samples Jewelry Store in Lawrence, Watson Jewelry Store in Topeka and retired from Briman’s Jewelers in Topeka in 1981. He was a member of Seabrook Congregational Church of Christ and later St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Topeka Watchmaker Guild, Golden Rule Lodge 90, Scottish Rite and Shrine Arab Patrol.He married Orinda H. Stull on Sept. 29, 1947, in Stull. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Delores Miller, Stillwater, Okla., and Deborah Esquibel, Topeka; two sisters, Vona Axline, Edmond, Okla., and Lila Patton, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Friends may call from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice, 200 S.W.
