Venita Fay Gimblet

Services for Venita Fay Gimblet, 78, Lawrence, will be in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains near Taos, N.M., at a later date. A local memorial service will be from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the home of Ken and Mitzie Gimblet.Mrs. Gimblet died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Babcock Place in Lawrence.She was born Feb. 12, 1928, in the Lone Star area of Douglas County, the daughter of Floyd and Gertrude Garber. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence and was a lifelong resident of the city.Mrs. Gimblet worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant during the Korean War. She and her husband owned and operated Johnny’s Refrigeration Co.She married John Hout Gimblet on Dec. 17, 1945. He died June 8, 1987.Survivors include two sons, John Gimblet, Taos, N.M., and Ken Gimblet, Clinton; three sisters, Verna Horton, Arlington, Texas, Doris Schmedemann, Central Point, Ore., and Vivian Norris, Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Rosa and Ewan.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. and Hospice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
