Oliver Moritz Solberg 1923 - 2006
Memorial services for Oliver Moritz "Swede" Solberg, 82, Eudora, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.Mr. Solberg died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Oliver and Gerda Solberg. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1940 as a Hellcat fighter pilot during World War II until he returned home in 1945.Mr. Solberg entered the post-war home-building business and oversaw construction of houses in the Kansas City area, Lawrence and Wichita. He owned Craftmark Homes in the 1960s and retired in the 1970s to his farm in Eudora. He was a member of the Blue Lodge in Overland Park and the Abdullah Scottish Rite and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.He married Betty Ray on Dec. 9, 1945. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, George, Eudora; a daughter, Vicki Hanson, Lenexa; seven grandchildren, Ambika, Easan, Priya, Colleen, Bryon, Shaun and Jefry; and five great-grandchildren.A brother and two sisters died earlier.The family suggests memorials to the Palliative Care Unit at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, sent in care of the mortuary.
