Paul F. Conrad 1921 - 2006
Paul F. Conrad, 84, Lawrence, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at his home. He was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Hempstead, N.Y., the son of Conrad and Lillian Frichknecht. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1948, a Master of Science degree in 1949, and a doctor of philosophy in 1951, all from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne.Mr. Conrad served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He taught and did mathematics in Newcomb College of Tulane University from 1951 to 1970. He was a Fulbright lecturer at the University of Ceylon in 1958. He was a National Science Foundation Senior Postdoctoral Fellow from 1964 to 1965 at Australian National University. He was a professor at Kansas University from 1970 until he retired. He wrote more than 80 papers in the ordered algebraic structures field. He was elected twice by graduate students at Kansas University to receive the G. Baley Price Award for Excellence in Teaching. He was appointed Henry J. Bischoff professor of mathematics.He married Marilyn Christian on Jan. 28, 1943, in Los Angeles. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Clifford, Manhattan; a sister, Esther Armstrong, Macomb, Ill.; and a grandchild.Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence is in charge of arrangements.
