Gertie Inez Ferrell

A celebration of life for Gertie Inez Ferrell Stout, 96, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blanche Community Church at the former site of Blanche, Mo. Burial will follow in Blanche Church Cemetery.Mrs. Stout died Tuesday, July 18, 2006.She was born Aug. 18, 1910, in Blanche, Mo., the daughter of James and Sara Riley Ferrell. She lived a few miles of where she was born her whole life except for a year in Tarkio, Mo., and the last 32 months in Lawrence.Mrs. Stout and her husband operated many rural grocery stores and a family farm. She also worked at the Rock Bridge fishing retreat before she retired. She was a member of Gentryville Community Church. She was a seamstress and enjoyed quilting and playing the piano.She married Hugh L. Stout on Nov. 29, 1929. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Virginia and husband Allan “Skeet” Smith, Lawrence; a sister, Daisy and husband Art Haug, Lawrence; a brother Alf Ferrell, Livermore, Calif.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.An infant son, Dallas, and a son, Doyle, died earlier; and an infant granddaughter Diana, died earlier; three brothers, J.P. Ferrell, Floyd Ferrell and Urgil Ferrell, died earlier; and two sisters, Maude Ferrell Massey and Lucille Ferrell Ridenour, died earlier.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Clinkenbeard Funeral Home in Ava, Mo.The family suggests memorials to Blanche Cemetery, Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. or the church, sent in care of the Clinkenbeard Funeral Home, 408 N.E.
